Why it works
The book you need was bought by someone three buildings away who is finished with it. The campus store's used shelf is the same trade with a middleman and a markup on both ends.
Course codes make it findable. A title and an edition are not enough on their own — two sections of the same course can run different editions, and the wrong one is useless to you. Listing the school and the course code is what turns a pile of books into a match.
Editions matter, so the listing states the edition. Condition matters, so the listing states the condition. Include the ISBN when you have it and there is nothing left to guess about — one ISBN is one edition of one printing.

How do I sell my textbooks to other students?
Photograph the cover or the ISBN and the AI fills in the title, author, edition, and condition. Add your school and the course code, because that is what makes the book findable by the students who actually need it — a title alone is not enough when two sections of the same course run different editions. Then set a price, or mark the book as a trade or free. The listing shows up for buyers browsing books near you.
Is it cheaper to buy textbooks from another student?
Usually, because nobody is taking the spread twice. A campus store buys a used book back at one price and resells it at a higher one, and both sides of that margin come out of students. Buying directly from the student who finished the course removes the middleman and the shipping wait, and you can see the exact edition and condition before you agree to anything.
How do I make sure I get the right edition?
Every listing states the edition, and the course code tells you which class it was used for. Check the edition against your syllabus or the course page before you pay, since page numbers and problem sets move between editions and an older edition is sometimes explicitly not accepted. If a listing includes the ISBN, that is the most exact check available — one ISBN is one edition of one printing.
Can I trade textbooks instead of buying them?
Yes. A listing can be marked as a trade rather than a sale, so a student who has the book you need and needs the book you have can swap straight across. What should I include in a textbook listing?
